Kishu Binchotan Charcoal, natural, activated Japanese charcoal. For hundreds of years, artisans of Japan’s southern Kishu region have created Binchotan charcoal the fallen branches of the ubame oak tree. Famed for its purifying qualities, and exceptionally versatile, Binchotan is a natural, activated, reusable, organic charcoal, that naturally removes heavy metals and other toxins from water, air, soil or skin. A single stick can be placed in water as a filter to produce clean, crisp, mineralized water, and it can be reused for up to four months. When it's finished as a filter, it can be used as an air deodorizer, or added to compost soil.
Directions: Binchotan naturally removes chlorine and heavy metals, such as lead, cadmium, and mercury, as well as re-mineralizing with calcium, potassium, magnesium and others. Simply add one stick to a medium sized container of water, and for best results, let sit for 6-8 hours. The charcoal will absorb toxins, and the result is exceptionally clean, crisp tasting water. Binchotan can last up to four months with maintenance:
- Once a month: boil sticks of Binchotan charcoal in a shallow pan of water for 10 minutes. This will allow its pores to open which facilitates the absorption and filtration of toxins.
- After 4 months: After boiling, add stick to water, and check to see that a fine layer of bubbles forms. When a fine layer no longer appears, the Binchotan charcoal has reached its capacity as a filter. Do not discard, it’s still valuable! The Binchotan charcoal stick can be added to soil or compost to neutralize, condition and re-mineralize. It also makes an excellent air deodorizer!
